Embracer Group Signs Agreement to Acquire Eidos, Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix Montreal and More

Embracer Group acquired three studios that were engaged in franchises such as Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Thief, Legacy of Kain and others. In this unexpected transaction, the amount of the agreement is also surprising – only $ 300 million for all studios and games.

The acquisition was affected by 1100 employees of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal studios, located in eight locations scattered around the world. The company will tell you more about the deal today, May 2, in a presentation for investors.

According to the famous insider, Square Enix has long been looking for who would sell her western wing. This transaction is similar to the previous one according to the purchase of Perfect World – the maternal company wished to concentrate in the native market, clutching the Western branch.

Such a solution from Square Enix may be due to the latest failures in sales of games such as Marvel’s Avenges, Guardians of the Galaxy and Babylon’s Fall. However, the Tomb Raider series cannot be called a failure, so it is completely unclear why the franchise was sold.
